Maddie Collins has a kidney disorder, Nephotic Syndrome. Maddie is now on dialysis every night and is going to be having her last Kidney removed in August with a date of 24th October for a kidney transplant.
In August 2011 Maddie had her right kidney removed and started dialysis every night until a transplant was possible.
In October 2011 Maddie’s biopsy results showed her disease has progressed to FSGS – Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis.
Our focus has been for Maddie to get her protein level down to around 27 shes currently sitting at 2488 ( this has not happened even with one kidney out) so the other one must now come out. Maddie has only been well enough to attend school for a couple of hours a week at the most.

Maddie’s dad Adam has been tested to see if he is a match and thankfully he is… Although while Maddie’s mum Sarah was also being tested they found out she had breast cancer. Sarah has endured a Mastectomy and 6 months of Chemotherapy so far this year – with her battle not over yet… As well as dealing with all of Maddie’s medical needs.
Maddie and her family will be living in Auckland for 3 – 4 months over the transplant time – not including the time in August to take out Maddie’s last kidney.
